A STRONG crowd of over 25,500 people visited the Dowerin GWN7 Machinery Field Days this week, which marks a record for recent years.
The 52nd event attracted even more visitors than its 50th Anniversary year, which saw a 20 per cent increase on previous years.
Dowerin Events Management Chairman Michael Metcalf said the increased number of visitors was no doubt a reflection of the season.
“This season has to be the best we’ve seen in this region for over ten years, with well above average rainfall for the growing season,” Mr Metcalf said.
“To top it off we were blessed with sunny days across the event.”
While the chilly mornings delayed the early crowds, they quickly built up over the course of the morning.
Mr Metcalf said exhibitors reported good sales and strong interest from potential buyers.
“The atmosphere around the site was very relaxed, which was probably also an indication of the season,” Mr Metcalf said.
Dowerin Events Management event coordinator Jenna Santos said the number of exhibitors had also increased by ten percent on 2015, reaching a record of 770 exhibitors.
“The new Equestrian Exhibit contributed to the rise in exhibitor numbers, attracting over 34 exhibitors plus 12 demonstrators,” Mrs Santos said.
“We also had more machinery exhibitors than ever before and had a waiting list before applications closed in mid-May.”
Mrs Santos said the new Equestrian Exhibit attracted a significant number of new patrons and was a huge success in its first year.
“We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback about the new exhibit, from visitors, demonstrators and exhibitors,” Mrs Santos said.
“There isn’t much in terms of equestrian expos in WA so it has been really well received.
“We expect the exhibition to grow over the next few years and are looking forward to continually developing it.”
Mrs Santos said the event would not exist without the support of its volunteers and sponsors including GWN7, Countryman and farmmachinerysales.com.au.
“We would like to thank everyone for their involvement in the 2016 Dowerin Field Days and congratulate all exhibitors on the quality of their displays, particularly our award winners who went far and beyond.
